Daybreak

In the early hours of the day
I think of you who wandered off
to foreign shores and other arms
and wonder how you’ve been
Draped in a blanket
against the morning cold
I stare at the waves
collapsing on the beach
and watch another day begin
A gull cries harsh and loud
for no apparent reason
it seems
but I don’t know his mind either

This is pure emotion - brings to mind all the friends, lovers, family members, strangers forever etched in my heart and who I will never be able to see again. Beautiful writing!

I love the way you compare the one who left, with the intrusive gull.

Great last line: "...but I don’t know his mind either." So good!

This piece is filled with motion, little stops like "it seems" make you rethink your entire approach to the previous parts. Brilliant work Ms. Sterenborg.

Very poignant reflection of isolation and loss. That ocean separating them feels like it will never be crossed.

I really loved this one, Fenny.
